Video: Nobot and Beeple - "Subprime"

subprime from beeple on Vimeo.

So I'm a few days behind on this one, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth posting about. "Subprime" is the collaboration between visual artist Beeple and digi-pop duo Nobot, who did the music for the short film. If you dig the music from "Subprime," the head on over to the band's MySpace, where you can stream the music from it.

Nobot Announce Project Project 2

When last we heard about Project Project, the ambitious multi-media smorgasbord from electronic acts Nobot and Estate, it had successfully combined the best of music, film, art, and dance, dance, dance, baby. So, as with all things that are successful (300 peeps showed up to the Kitty Cat Klub last fall), a sequel was warranted.

This time around, Project Project 2 will feature the following: a CD Release party from likeminded electro-pop band Ghost in the Water; the premiere of a Nobot/Beeple multimedia collaboration; dueling DJ sets between DJ Bach and DJ Gigamesh; and, lastly, performances by Nobot and Estate themselves, with artwork and film from Soar Studios, donebestdone, Beeple, and Jon Thompson helping to round out the evening.

Here are the official deets:

FRIDAY MARCH 27TH
KITTY CAT KLUB
315 14th Avenue SE • Dinkytown • Minneapolis, MN 55414

Be there.

New NOBOT - "Said and Done"

Download: NOBOT - "Said and Done"

Like Big Quarters, electronic-music duo NOBOT like to give away a free song every month, and December is no different. The MPLS-based twosome released their new single, "Said and Done", through various outlets, including this here blog and their own website. In contrast to party jam "Drinking Progress", "Said and Done" is a little more patient in terms of building dynamics, and it's also more sinister, in terms of sonically and lyrically. "We are the ones who are supposed to know/about the ones who watch us now" sound vaguely Orwellian, and the music doesn't help alleviate such dark notions, with minor-key guitar riffs and monotone robot voices speaking about the end. All in all, another solid jam. Listen to "Said and Done" at the top of the post.

New NOBOT - "Drinking Progess"

Download: NOBOT - "Drinking Progress"

"We're drinking progress/and we're getting fucked up" is probably too saucy a line to ever expect out of the speakers at a Barack Obama victory rally (fingers crossed, knock on wood), but for those of us who aren't trying to impress anyone with our moral constitution can scream this at the top of their lungs after pounding a cold one after celebrating the end of the Bush-era. From a micro-beer, of course.

But no matter what your race, creed, or gender is, if MPLS-based electro-dance duo NOBOT's new song "Drinking Progress" doesn't make you get up and dance, then you must be John McCain. In which case, I'd like to thank and honor you for your service to the country, but politely suggest that the gutteral, rumbling bass synth-sounds that begin the song, or its free-form song-structure which allows for both a catchy verse and for the extended jams that hardcore dance fans are used to, may not be for you. Don't get mad! Don't get mad! ARGGHHH, WAAAA.

While I fend off a attack from the distinguished senator from Arizona, you can listen to NOBOT's new single, "Drinking Progress", at the top of the post. In other NOBOT news, the band has got a show with We Are Wolves and Soviet Panda coming up this Sunday, the 21st. The following Sunday, the 21st, sees the band headlining a show at the Uptown Bar. Peep the show details below:
