"We're drinking progress/and we're getting fucked up" is probably too saucy a line to ever expect out of the speakers at a Barack Obama victory rally (fingers crossed, knock on wood), but for those of us who aren't trying to impress anyone with our moral constitution can scream this at the top of their lungs after pounding a cold one after celebrating the end of the Bush-era. From a micro-beer, of course.

But no matter what your race, creed, or gender is, if MPLS-based electro-dance duo NOBOT's new song "Drinking Progress" doesn't make you get up and dance, then you must be John McCain. In which case, I'd like to thank and honor you for your service to the country, but politely suggest that the gutteral, rumbling bass synth-sounds that begin the song, or its free-form song-structure which allows for both a catchy verse and for the extended jams that hardcore dance fans are used to, may not be for you. Don't get mad! Don't get mad! ARGGHHH, WAAAA.

While I fend off a attack from the distinguished senator from Arizona, you can listen to NOBOT's new single, "Drinking Progress", at the top of the post. In other NOBOT news, the band has got a show with We Are Wolves and Soviet Panda coming up this Sunday, the 21st. The following Sunday, the 21st, sees the band headlining a show at the Uptown Bar. Tonight in Minneapolis: Parts For All Makes, The Haves Have It

With guitars and drum sticks blazing, indie-rock threesome The Haves Have It played to a packed crowd at Hexagon in late March in honor of their first full-length album, Friction – expect a similar experience when the band plays tonight at the Uptown, opening for Parts For All Makes’s CD release party.

Friction contains a lot of fan favorites that have been in THHI repertoire for a few years, like the haunting, moody "Dark Dark" and angsty, guitar-heavy "Burnsville." However, the band also cranked out a few new tracks for the album, like the harmonious and echoing "Tow Tag." Friction is one of those no-fuss, no-muss first albums. The kind where you instantly know that the band isn’t going to conform to what is stereotypically popular in indie rock, or in any other genre for that matter. It’s simply The Haves Have It: 2 girls and a boy who know who they are and put it out there for all to hear.

THHI were in raucous form for the show, the trio was full of smiles when they took the stage and sounded as if they’d blow the top off the bar (in a good way). The show definitely proved these guys definitely own a unique sound that is original to them; each member existing in every moment of music, creating a tripod of how rock and roll should sound.

Portia belted out the anthem "Pie" (about the food or the body part? You decide!) much to the amusement of the entire room, causing a spontaneous chain of bouncing to the guttural bass strumming from Jenny Gallup and Kelly Pollack’s drum thumping. After playing a majority of the songs from Friction and a few others, THHI thanked the audience profusely for all their support. Looking back to a sea of people that reached as far back as the outside doors, it was pretty apparent we were thanking them for their continued awesomeness. Expect nothing less at the Uptown tonight.

If you're a square who, for one reason or another, doesn't mind getting freaked out, then you should head on over to the Uptown Bar where hardcore punk/psychobilly group BuildingBetterBombs are playing. Show is 21+, starts at 9 p.m. and will cost you $5. Opening up are Mike Mictlan of MPLS rap collective Doomtree, Voyager and MPLS electronic hip-hop act Slapping Purses.

There are those amongst us who say that there's no such thing as a free lunch. Those people clearly need to open up their schedule, because while there may be no such thing as a free mid-day meal, the evening is looking particularly stellar. That is especially the case tonight, when MPLS psych-pop trio, and MFR favorite, Daughters of the Sun play a free show tonight at the Uptown Bar and Cafe. Doors are at 9 p.m. and the show is 21+. Playing with DotS will be Aunt Dracula and Mike Lewis/Jeremy Ylvisaker.

Tonight: The Umbrella Sequence At The Uptown Bar

It's an Event anytime that Minneapolis-based propulsive, genre-hopping group The Umbrella Sequence play a show, to be sure, but tonight's show at the Uptown is extra special. Not only is the Umbrella Sequence's show tonight their penultimate show of 2007, but it's also their last show in MPLS before the group starts out 2008, Events with a tour of the UK.

The Umbrella Sequence released their album, Events, this past summer and it was not only an expert execution in the psychedelic, synth-driven, pop music that The Flaming Lips have been making since the late 90s. The difference between the two bands is that The Umbrella Sequence also include bursts of guitar-rock, which help to ground the more ethereal keybord sounds by creating an awe-inspiring juxtaposition of dream and reality. And judging by the blood-drenched pictures up on their MySpace page, the live show should have a bit of a conceptual edge.

Doors are at 9 p.m. for the 21+ show. Tickets are $5 and can be bought at the venue.

Bon Iver, the Eau-Claire, WI, singer-songwriter and MFR favorite will be playing a show tonight at the Uptown Bar. Bon, or "Ben" as he is referred to on the Uptown Bar's shows page, will be opening for Minneapolis electro-poppers (sounds like a fast-food dish, no?) Digitata and Raleigh, North Carolina folk act Megafaun.Unfortunately, the rest of the Autobots cannot make it to the show.

Show is 21+ and starts at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are 5 bucks, so none of you cheap bastards have an excuse for not going.
