Video: Nobot and Beeple - "Subprime"

subprime from beeple on Vimeo.

So I'm a few days behind on this one, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth posting about. "Subprime" is the collaboration between visual artist Beeple and digi-pop duo Nobot, who did the music for the short film. If you dig the music from "Subprime," the head on over to the band's MySpace, where you can stream the music from it.

Video: Atmosphere - "Shrapnel" (Live at Coachella, with interview at festival)

(Atmosphere - "Shrapnel" - Live at Coachella 2009)

(via)

If you weren't able to attend this weekend's Coachella festival, well, count yourselves as being one of many. The painted gold on that lemon is that videos from the hotter-than-hell (in terms of both popularity and actual temperature) festival have begun surfacing on YouTube. Above you'll see a video of Atmosphere, who played in 2006, performing "Shrapnel," from the recently released record God Loves Ugly.

Below is footage from an interview that Atmosphere emcee Slug did with 91xrocks, a radio station (they still exist?) based out of San Diego.

Apparently, polka is real huge up in the MPLS.

That's news to us. Although, now that you mention it...

New Music: P.O.S - "Why Go?"

(via)

The hot MPLS emcee covers a deep cut from Pearl Jam's culture re-defining grunge classic Ten in a minimalist, beat-heavy style. Check out the nasty breakdown which goes where the guitar solo normally would.

Video: St. Paul Slim and Toki Wright - Live at "Artist Meets Artist"

Slim uploaded this video of him and Toki Wright's performance at the Rhymesayers' Artist Meets Artist concert earlier this month to a MySpace bulletin late last night, and, if you watch the video, you'll know immediately that Slim and Wright absolutely tear it up. Baldheaded Samsun and A Different Mirror can't come soon enough (actually, Wright's Mirror is set to drop on June 9th via Rhymesayers). To watch another video from the concert, go here, or, check out even more videos of Atmosphere, Brother Ali, and Trauma doing their respective things below (via)

Video: M.anifest @ Artist Meets Artist

Sold Out! Rhymesayers Artist meets Artist Show from M.anifest on Vimeo.

(via)

By all accounts, the Rhymesayers Artist Meets Artist concert was a smashing success. I was looking at YouTube all day yesterday, trying to find footage of Twin Cities' finest emcees doing their thing. Alas, I haven't found anything yet, but Midwest Broadcast scooped up a Vimeo video of Ghana/MPLS-based rapper M.anifest. Watch it at the top of the post. In the meantime, on to finding new videos!

Video: Mayda CD Release Party @ Triple Rock Social Club

St. Paul songstress Mayda displays a strongly deadpan sense of humor in this promo clip for her CD release show this Saturday at the Triple Rock. There, she will be celebrating her latest disc, The Interrogation, by releasing it into the wild, by which I mean into the forest of consumers, who can purchase the disc there. Or at Cheapo. Or at any of the other fine, independently-owned record stores that Mayda mentions in the vid.

Check out the video at the top of the post. Below, check the flyer:

Video: POS Tour Diary Part 2

This video of manic rapper POS on tour comes courtesy of the Rhymesayers website, who also remind us that the video for "Optimist" will premiere on MTV2 this Wednesday. So what's that? 2 down, 4 more to go? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Video: Peter Parker Interviews Muja Messiah on B96 (Feb 26th, 2009)

This video is from Muja's appearance on Parker's show last night at about 8:30 p.m. or so. The duo talk about many things, not the least of which was Parker's rant about local hip-hop. Parker also asks Muja about how he earned his success, to which Messiah answers that people need to be self-reliant. Muja Messiah also relates an anecdote about an encounter with Def Jam head Russell Simmons. Check it out at the top of the post. Oh, there's a freestyle too.

New Video: Cecil Otter - "1999...The Curse of Gab"

(via)

Though its been POS whose gotten most of the attention lately, it would be the death of hip-hop fans everywhere to underestimate the rest of the estimable Doomtree collective. Poetess Dessa released the MPLS-based nonet's first book, a collection of poetry and essays called Spiral Bound on February 7th; also, rapper Cecil Otter put out his solo album Rebel Yellow last fall. Recently, Otter has signed with label Strange Famous Records, who, in a wider distribution deal, will re-release Yellow. To celebrate, Otter has released a video for "1999...The Curse of Gab," a track from Yellow. Watch it at the top of the post. According to Midwest Broadcast, Otter is currently working on Yellow's follow-up, Porcelain Revolver

Video: Illuminous 3 Projects Promo

Hot off the heels of South MPLS hip-hop trio Illuminous 3's debut album, Room, late last year, the three have not one, not two, but three new projects coming out in the next month or so. They are: FranzDiego.com's debut EP entitled "The FranzDiego.com EP," which the rapper has released as a free download; Mavin MC's debut EP entitled "The Craftmaster," which can also be found at his website ; and, finally, Freez's debut mixtape entitled "The For Real It's Too E-Z," which is at his MySpace page.

Video: CunninLynguists - Never Come Down (The Brownie Song)

This may seem kind of random, but if you stick with this video until the end, you'll find out why I'm posting it. There's a surprisingly local connection to this video, one that involves a guest appearance on Cunninlynguists' upcoming album. Here's a hint: they just announced a tour to support a re-release of one of their earlier records.
