Glorious Monster Interviewed By Cove Magazine

Recently, non-for-profit arts publication Cove Magazine interviewed Minneapolis-based ambient-pop duo Glorious Monster. The interview touches on subjects like the twosome's "progression as artists, our progression a song-writing duo, our day jobs as humble jinglesmiths, the next Glorious Monster record, and the conception of our yet-to-be-released neo-disco-electro-dance band, Man is Doomed".

That same blog post the quote comes from (note to self: steal "neo-disco-electro-dance band") mentions that Man is Doomed will start to play around the area in the next month or so. When dates are announced, MFR will let you know.

Glorious Monster Offshoot To Appear In "The Real World: Hollywood" (Also: Perez Hilton Digs The 1900s?)

Minneapolis and Hollywood are opposites in many ways, not the least of which includes climate--MPLS, after all, has something called "Cold Weather". But the two cities are about to have at least one thing in common: the music of Glorious Monster, the electro-pop duo from the land of 10000 lakes. The conduit for such a connection? Why, it's "The Real World". Yes, the television show that started out as an earnest, if convoluted, look into the lives of twenty-somethings that has gentrified to an even more convoluted orgy of twenty-something drinking-and-screwing themselves into an orgy of stupid. How is this possible? I'll let Brian from GM do the explaining.

Hello World,

So, as many of you may or may not know, we here at Glorious Monster also write music for many other things. One of these things is a Neo-Disco Electrono-Rock project that we had not yet revealed to the public.

However, one of the songs we wrote for this project, "Take Off Your Pants (and Dance)", is being featured tonight on the new episode of MTV's Real World Hollywood. A "feature" means they use the vocal version, a significant amount of the song, and they give us a little drop down box during the show as the track plays that tells the viewers the name of the song, band, and album.

This created a small problem for us, as the fine people at MTV received a song from us that we are yet to release.

So if you are feeling juvenile and want to watch MTV tonight, look out for "Take off your pants (and dance)", by The Skeptics (our production team name).


Are we going to release this new neo-disco electrono-rock project under the artistic signature "The Skeptics"?? No, in fact, that shall remain our title as producers, but the song should really be attributed to the band name "Man is Doomed".

Because of the sudden placement of one of our new unreleased songs, we were forced to hastily and crudely assemble a myspace page for "Man is Doomed". It will get better, we promise. Also, we have updated the Skeptic Music page with new(er) music from Glorious Monster, Man is Doomed, and some recent film music we wrote as well.

We're not judging--the economy blows goats (I have proof), and the bills have to get paid somehow. Still, "The Real World"? Does it really have to be "The Real World?".

Just wanted to issue a quick reminder that Minneapolis-based ambient indie duo Glorious Monster are having a release party for their new remix EP, In The Movies, tonight at the Nomad Pub. Glorious Monster – Upcoming EP Release & Christmas Tune

Glorious Monster has recently put up their version of "O Holy Night", a song which will be included on their upcoming remix EP, on their MySpace page. I’m not a huge fan of Christmas tunes in general, simply because of their ubiquitousness this time of year; not only are holiday songs played from Thanksgiving to New Years, but the same, recycled songs plague every retail store, every grocery store, and just about every commercial on television. However, Glorious Monster’s version of this song is definitely unique; it’s not screaming with yuletide overkill.

The tune begins with a somber yet sweet vocal courtesy of Brian Casey with only the slightest single humming tone hanging demurely in the background. Then, in grand Glorious Monster fashion, the song picks up slowly, but surely, with a crescendo of light electronic sound that makes the traditional seem new, fresh, and modern. The main elements of the song sound the same, it stays quiet and dreamlike, with the slightest touch of electronic rhythm that brings the song to life. It’s a melancholy twist on the original that’s a refreshing change of pace from the ridiculously chipper tunes to which we’re all so accustomed at Christmastime.

Glorious Monster will be holding a release party for their In the Movies remix EP this Saturday, December 8 at Nomad with NOBOT and Estate. Show starts at 9pm, $5 cover, 21+.

Glorious Monster Cover David Bowie On New EP

Minneapolis ambient indie-rockers Glorious Monster have announced that they will be putting out a remix EP at the end of the year. The EP will boast the imaginative title In The Movies Remix EP (at least the consumer knows what they're getting) and will consists of 8 tracks. Two of those tracks have been posted on the band's MySpace Page. The first is a remix of the track "In The Movies", which originally appeared on last year's Adventures On Earth and the second is a cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity". It's a fantastical version of a song that originally had quite a lot of fantastical elements to it. You can listen to the band's version of the Bowie classic here.

In addition to those tasty morsels, the Movies EP will contain remixes of Earth tracks "Photographs" and "Now You Are". The set will be rounded out by a cover of Christmas standard "O Holy Night".

That final track will be a nice winter-y treat by the time the band's CD Release party comes around. Glorious Monster will be celebrating the release of the EP on Dec. 8th at the Nomad. The show is 21+, starts at 9 p.m. and will cost you 5 bucks.

Posted above is the new video from Minneapolis-based Glorious Monster for their song entitled "In The Movies" from their just-released debut album, Adventures On Earth. This video has some very intriguing animation which helps sugarcoat the fact that this is a sad, sad video.

Actually, Glorious Monster remind me a lot of a slowed-down, more ambient version of Chicago band The Changes. That band just released a new video for the song "When I Wake," which is taken from their last record Today Is Tonight. See the video for yourself by going to the Kitchen Ware Records webpage. From there, you can stream the video in the bottom right-hand corner.
