More New Devendra Banhart Tracks

Download: Devendra Banhart - "Bad Girl"
Out with "Seahorse" and "So Long Old Bean" and in with "Carmencita" and "Bad Girl." Devendra Banhart, who is releasing an album called Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon on Sept. 25th, is debuting two new tracks from the forthcoming album every Friday. This past Friday, it was the aforementioned "Carmencita" and "Bad Girl."
You can listen to the tracks either on Banhart's website or his MySpace Page or listen to the tracks at the top of this post.
"Carmencita" starts off soft and whispery before transforming into an upbeat piece, sung in Spanish, with a little Afro-Cuban feel to it. "Bad Girl" is considerably more tranquil, with Banhart singing from the perspective of a regretful woman over a mournful slide guitar line and pastoral drums. Overall, "Bad Girl" is very serene, but said serenity is put in jeopardy when Banhart starts his cathartic caterwauling toward the end of the track. Still, it's all very good stuff.
Pre-Order Smokey here.
