Minneapolis based power-pop band The Melismatics are playing a show tomorrow night at the Abbey Pub in Chicago. They'll be opening up for Let's Get Out Of This Terrible Sandwich shop (more about them below). If you are a fan of either Apples In Stereo or Cheap Trick, then you should check out The Melismatics. If you're in Minneapolis, then you'll find plenty of opportunities to see the band. Perhaps the most relevant is the band's appearance at the Fine Line Music Cafe's benefit concert to help raise money for the Minnesota Helps Fund: Bridge Disaster fund. Tickets are $10 and the show starts at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5). The money is obviously for a great cause, so if you can go, do.

More than just a clever name, Let's Get Out Of This Terrible Sandwich Shop play off-kilter, comedic indie-pop that takes the template that Pavement laid down and adds jokes to it. No, not the jokes that were oh so bad, but actual, funny jokes. It certainly helps that all of the band members have backgrounds in improvisational comedy. What started out as a one-man band has evolved into a full-fledge band putting out some wonderfully whimsical material. The band put out an EP last year and are set to release a full-length later this fall. Check out "Bye You," which is from the EP and "Henry And The Horse" from the forthcoming LP. And, of course, the band plays live tomorrow at the Abbey Pub. Show starts at 9. The Melismatics open.
