Yes, that "Bare Necessities." The one we all know and love. The classic Jungle Book song is given the Lucy Michelle treatment, and you can hear the results over at the group's MySpace Page. It's just as adorable as you can possibly imagine. While you're at it, check out new song "Goodnight" too.

New Local Music: Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles - "Goodbye"

Coming off being one of 2009's Best New Bands, it's to be expected that a group like Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles would be courting new listeners with the material that did so with the old ones. Of course, it never hurts to record new stuff to show off, and that's what the gypsy-caberet-folk group did. "Goodnight," a song newly posted on the band's MySpace page. The song falls more on the introspective, contemplative side of the group's style of music making, with a bassoon being a focal musical point. Check it out here.

Lucy Michelle Parties On With "Wayne and McGrath"

Idiosyncratic folk-pop sextet Lucy Michelle and The Velvet LaPelles released a delightful little oddity of a new year's video. The clip, titled "Wayne and McGrath" (yay puns!) features the band's namesake--in blue wig, natch--along with someone presumably named McGrath, playing a short little synth pop ditty. Check it out at the top of the post. In other LaPelles news, the group will take part in First Ave's. "Best New Bands of 2008" concert.

Right before that, the group will play a show at a two-horse po-dunk little college called St. Olaf in Northfield, MN. Let's all hope that Ole the lion treats them well. If not, then I'll withhold all that plum alumi cash that I was planning on donating. Let's see how you handle not having that 50 cents now, Olaf!
