New Iran - "Buddy"
Download: Iran - "Buddy"
Definitely in the same vein, production wise, as fellow pop layerists (wait, what?) Department of Eagles, Iran, much like the Grizzly Bear offshoot, take the template laid down by doo-wop, then add reverb and echo to create a shimmering, swooning effect. There's a little bit of Stephen Malkmus' lackadaisical sing-speak in the vocals, but I'd doubt that Pavement would have written something this produced. The explosion of fuzz toward the end hints at more experimental directions. But make no mistake, this is as straightforward a pop song as one could write.
Listen to "Buddy" at the top of the post. Their debut EP was released on Tuesday.
