New N.E.R.D. - "Time For Some Action"
2 Dope Boyz debuted this new track from superstar hip-hop group N.E.R.D's upcoming Seeing Sounds LP. "Time For Some Action" starts off with a faux-sample of a certain classical music standard, with Pharrell waxing nostalgic about godawful summer heat in his childhood--in this narration, the titular phrase comes into play--before settling into a rumbling bass line, multi-tracked backup vocals, and a rap delivered with a sparse, minimalist flow.
The synth-heavy bridge doesn't take away from the action of the verse, but it still feels a bit tacked on. All in all, the bass line is sick, but there's something oddly stagnant and complacent about "Time For Some Action"; wish they could have done better.
Seeing Sounds is out June 10th.
