New My Morning Jacket - "Evil Urges"

This is the title track from Louisville (pronounced Lou-uh-Ville, as Kirsten Dunst has properly taught us), Kentucky-based quintet My Morning Jacket posted the title track of their new album, which is called Evil Urges. And with that post came a nifty manifesto of sorts explaining how and why the listener has traveled in time back to the 1990s. You'll see what I'm referring to once you click on the link here.

As for what the track sounds like, "Evil Urges" sounds like the great vintage Motown song that David Bowie never wrote during his Ziggy Stardust phase. We dig the falsetto vocals by Jim James. Perhaps James will start to give the Purple One a run for his money? If so, the MMJ singer's got to reach higher notes and be less inclined toward those gloriously summery instrumental jams that are the Jacket's forte. As it is, the track is blissful, glam-futuristic blue-eyed soul music.

Evil Urges comes out in June.
