The Mist, A Soundtrack
I saw "The Mist" on Saturday night. You know the story, Stephen King blah blah, scary movie blah blee blue, but it actually was pretty fun. Part of that fun was in the fact that there was absolutely no soundtrack. That's right, other than a few errant ambient tones way in the background, all there was to be heard in this film was the clashing sound effects of terrifying aliens or whatever those things were. This soundtracklessness worked to great effect to capture the "reality" of the situation, thus sucking the viewer in even further. However, I was not always thusly sucked.
And so, throughout the film, I kept superimposing my own internal soundtrack into the film. Sometimes appropriate, sometime very inappropriate - actually, most of them were inappropriate. If you have seen the film, try to guess which scene matches which song, and if you have yet to, keep some of this in mind.

So Ian, without giving anything away, I'll ask you this question about the movie (since I've seen it as well): do you feel the ending vindicated Marcia Gay Harden's character (the fundie)?
In response to your Soundtrack suggestions , The Death cab for Cutie is an inspired choice.
What I did notice in the Film (track used at the end of the Film - Twice) was the use of Dead Can Dance ' The Host of The Seraphim' though the mix the first time around was different - sad that i know these things but it's true lol.
Strangely enough DCD do not normally allow use of their music in films (Baraka I think it's called is the only other film that their music was used in I can think of off the top of my head).
