Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, a Chicago-based electronic indie-pop band, have posted an exclusive four-track version of a previously released song titled "New Year's Kiss". The The original rendition of the song is available on CFTPA's last effort, 2006's Etiquette. The song itself tells the tale of a walk-of-shame--the song's narrative details include the narrator walking past a beauty shop in what he wore last night--with the song's protagonist telling the story of how he pursued what was ultimately an anti-climatic new year's kiss--received "on the balcony/with champagne lips."
The music is, appropriately enough, slightly melancholic, with a bevy of distorted instruments, though that may just be the fidelity of the recording, laying the foundation for the synth-heavy track. That the song ends on an abrupt note (literally and figuratively) is fitting given that the song is all about the mild, but palatable, disappointment of a bad new year's kiss. But hey, a bad kiss is better than no kiss at all, yes?
Download "New Year's Kiss" at CTFPA's A/V Page or listen to it at the top of the post, along with two other songs from Etiquette.
