The Bad Plus, the Minneapolis jazz trio famous for creatively rearranging pop standards (including Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" and Burt Bacharach's "This Guy's In Love With You", both of which you can listen to at the top of this post), starts a four-night stand at Minneapolis' Dakota Jazz Club.

The group, who earlier this summer put out (on their own imprint no less) their fifth studio album Prog, will be easily the hardest working group in Minneapolis as 2007 comes to a close. For each of the four nights (Dec. 26th-29th) that TBP is at the Dakota, the group will play two shows - one which starts at 7 p.m. and another which starts at 9:30 p.m. The 7 p.m. show is all-ages and the 9:30 p.m. is presumably for older concertgoers. Tickets for both shows fall on the expensive side with prices being twenty-eight dollars at the minimum. Buy those here. But seeing as the likes of Billboard has referred to the band's studio output as "a gourmet 10-course meal of the sublime, the rowdy and the eclectic", imagine what The Bad Plus' live show will be like.

Actually, you don't have to imagine at all. Check out this YouTubed performance of "Anthem For The Earnest", a track from their album Suspicious Activity?:
