The neo-new-wave trio hits First Avenue on May 30th to promote their excellent It's Blitz! On an entirely random note, I saw YYYs at First Ave. some time ago, on the exact date of Karen O's birthday. Staff brought on cake and everything, and the band even got some of the audience in on the celebration action. Needless to say, it was a memorable show at a memorable venue. Hopefully, the band will give an equally captivating performance.

Cloud Cult Announce Coachella Appearance, New DVD Screening

Taken directly from the latest Cloud Cult newsletter:

Cloud Cult will be showing a sneak peak of their upcoming DVD on Sunday March 22nd at The Varsity Theater in Minneapolis. Seating is very limited. The DVD will be available for the first time at this showing and will be available everywhere on April 21st.

Boldface is ours, obviously. Sneak peak tickets for the event can be bought here. A brief note: the band will not be performing at the DVD release, which premieres the film No One Said It Will Be Easy, a documentary about the band.

However, if you want to catch the band in concert, you have multiple opportunities to do so. Perhaps the biggest is the Coachella festival, as the band just announced that they would be playing there via their newsletter

Shearwater Announce New Digital EP, MP3, Tour Dates

Of all the majestic tracks of Shearwater's masterful fifth album, Rook, the one that's most impressive, in terms of song dynamics and building to an unforgettable crescendo, is "The Snow Leopard". One of the closing tracks off of Rook, "Leopard" features a band at its creative peak. So it's fitting, then, that the song is the focal point of a new, digital-only, EP the band plays an releasing in just a few short weeks time. The new EP will include "The Snow Leopard", two covers ("So Bad" by Baby Dee and "Henry Lee", an American traditional), and a whole slew of tracks from radio sessions (including a pair recorded at a certain beloved Minnesotan institution). Tapes N Tapes have announced an US tour behind their upcoming sophomore release, Walk It Off, the cover of which is the image at the top of the post. After dates in SXSW, the group will start their trek across the US of A in their hometown of MPLS. The show will take place at First Avenue and tickets for the all-ages show will set you back 14 bucks. Tickets for the concert go on sale February 22nd , which is a Friday.

R.E.M. is set to tour the nation with Modest Mouse and The National following the release of their latest effort, Accelerate. Having seen The National once and R.E.M. twice, I can say that you definitely don't want to miss this show.
