"some artists we've been listening to in the van this tour are brad mehldau, gilberto gil, neil young, white denim, animal collective, and some assorted classic rock. we typically have a rule that we try to listen to full records and then not do repeat listens but that rule may have been breached a few times. chris, our merch guy, likes to do a 'world music hour' when he drives -- sometimes this draws in listeners and other times it backfires and people put in ear plugs or headphones with other music on. drew, our sound guy, has been pushing lil wayne and t-pain really hard on us. i think we all like lil wayne to some degree, but the t-pain has caused some of us to draw a pretty strong line in the sand. i'm glad we got to touch on that in our tour diary video for norman, oklahoma. jeremy tried to introduce us to a 'cutting edge 80s light electronica' group called blue nile -- that too, was met with a bit of skepticism, but we all had a good laugh about it. we hung out with steve from the band, white denim, in austin and he gave us a copy of the mixes from their forthcoming album -- that's probably the one thing that we all uniformly loved and even freaked out about a little so we're all excited for them and for other folks to hear it eventually. What the hell, let's go for the hat trick. Tapes N Tapes, whose sophomore effort, Walk It Off, was released on Tuesday, to middling massacres. (It would seem that the blogosphere, much like Japanese Macaques, occasionally eat their young). But matters such as these are of no concern to Josh Grier and company, who are promoting the shit out of Walk It Off. Yesterday, they were on Conan, but one day before that, the band was playing an in-store at the Virgin Records in Union Square. Footage of that show has shown up on the YouTube, and you can watch the band run through well-executed versions of first single, the stuttering strut of "Hang Them All" and album track "Headshock", which is more of carefree, swinging and Pixes-esque.

In other Tapes news, they're playing First Ave, RIGHT NOW! OMG! The band also played in a more intimate setting when they stopped by the offices of The Current to take Walk for a stroll down MPR-lane. All of the songs played at the in-store were played at the Current, but if you want to listen to them anyway, click here.

Pitchfork gave our hometown boys Tapes 'n Tapes a 5.9 today. I don't know what record they were listening to, but I have a good feeling TNT can Walk It Off.

In my weekly voyage of "hey, I should dink around YouTube looking for videos of some of the bands I like," I stumbled upon a new Tapes 'n Tapes track loosely titled "Demon Apple" that they played at Lollapalooza. Pretty dope. Jeremy Hanson just slays it back there on the drums.

I was watching my weekly stories last night, and while enjoying an always fresh episode of HBO's "Big Love," I could not help but notice something strikingly familiar during a very touching father-son seen. It was "Just Drums" by Tapes 'n Tapes in the background.

Yes, yes, I know you are all up in my grill, all like, "But Ian, surely this sort of placement on cable television happens all of the time." Which is true, however, this wasn't just placement, it was a near five minutes of saturation. It was such a long scene that the song, in fact, needed to be extended. It was great. For fun, here's "Just Drums" and "Buckle" (my favorite TNT song).
