Tonight: Rift Magazine 5th Anniversary Magazine

Hat tip to Rift Magazine for making it to five years. Help them celebrate tonight by heading over to the Hexagon tonight for a free 21+ show. Details are above. Added treat: Mighty Fairly's "My America" video, which was the winner of the second most-recent 36 hour songwriting competition.

Andrew Lynch - "Happy Human" (Winner of Rift Magazine's 36 Hour Songwriting Contest)

Over the weekend, Rift Magazine held their seventh 36 hour songwriting contest, in which many local singer-songwriters have 36 hours to write a song, then perform it in front of an audience. This year's topic was "The Meaning of Life," (I subscribed to Brain Candy's notion that "life is short, life is shit, and soon it will be over") and based upon the videos uploaded onto the How Was The Show blog, the participants did more than an admirable job with the subject.

But, of course, there can be only one winner, and you can see his efforts at the top of the post. "Happy Human" by Andrew Lynch recalls distinctly another Andrew--Bird, that is. Watch the video at the top of the post.

Show Announcement: Rift Magazine Fundraiser

With the economy in such dire straits, it's harder and harder for print magazines to go out and do their thing. However, the painted gold on this lemon is that it allows the opportunity for great shows to double as fundraisers. Peep this: Rift Magazine just announced a fundraiser for their spring issue, which they're hoping to put out in April, and it's the first of hopefully three shows. Amongst the bands playing at Stasiu's are: Supercollider (formerly ZibraZibra), Zoo Animal, Guante and Bill Mike (solo).

Here are the show deets:
