Tonight: Hexagon Bar Benefit @ Hexagon

After you no doubt see the "re-imagining" of Friday the 13th (ha!), head over to the Hexagon to spend your money on something that will actually do some small business good. Additionally, there will be "special guests" around 1:15 in the morning. Who will fill this musical booty call? Who knows? Find out for yourself by showing up tonight at the Hex.

Show Announcement: G-Biz: Blingo and G-Nome @ The Hexagon

ShitMonger presents:
G-Biz: Blingo and G-Nome
with First Communion Afterparty, Baby Guts, St Pauli Grla

February 19, 2009
The Hexagon - 21+, 9PM, FREE
2600 27th Ave S Minneapolis

Taken directly from the press release:

The hip-hop duo of G-Biz: Blingo and G-Nome are teaming up for a crazy hip-hop/rock filled night at south Minneapolis' Hexagon Bar. Helping them warm up a cold February Night will be one of last year’s best new bands, First Communion Afterparty and Baby Guts, 2008's best female vocalist. Starting off the night is St. Paul's ever-clever and offbeat rapper, Jessie Hoolihan, a.k.a. St Pauli Grla.

The show at the Hex is G-Biz's first gig in months, as they've been busy working on their upcoming full-length. In the interim though, the hip-hop twosome released a free Christmas album download. Though it's no longer the season, how can you not resist the charms of "We Three Gs?" That's comedy gold, I tells ya!

The Wizards Are Real songs are the most interesting of the bunch, with the band's sound suggesting seminal post-rockers Mogwai adding addition textural elements like saxophone and pedal-steel guitar. Zoo Animal have a crunchy, lo-fi aesthetic, with treble-heavy guitars and singer Holly Hansen helping the band sound like cross between a more upbeat Low and What Would The Community Think?-era Cat Power. Speaking of lo-fi, Inwood Radio have the classic slacker indie-pop sound that has made/will make past, present, and future listeners feel slanted and enchanted. Those wanting a little more fidelity and crashing rhythms can take comfort in headliner's Hojas Rojas brand of post-punk-pop.

Show Announcement: Solid Gold at the Hexagon

Deets via More Cowbell:

Solid Gold
+ “Secret Special Guests”*
Saturday, August 23
Hexagon Bar
Minneapolis, MN
10 pm | FREE | 21

In order to celebrate the release of issue #25 (considering how the print business is floundering these days, any issue successfully printed is cause of celebration), Rift Magazine is holding a party that doubles as a birthday get-together for Robyn, who is turning the big 30. Sounds like "All My Friends" will be on the playlist for this one. The details for the event are above. As to who the surprise guests are? (Well, you probably know this already, but just play along. It's Wednesday.) If you're doomed to know, then you've figured out that this event won't be a P.O.S.. It's in the hands of Vampires.

Did you see what I did there?

In other Vamp Hands news, the experimental quartet will be playing before a screening of Bits, a local independent film. The viewing takes place at the Uptown on Friday, August 22nd. Doors are at 11:30 pm, with the band playing from 11:45-12:30. Then the film screens.
