Wilco and Conor Oberst to Tour Together

Wilco has announced that Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band will be opening for them on their upcoming July tour. That's awesome. Both have new records coming out (Oberst May 5 and Wilco in June). I'll let you know when the dates are announced.

Conor Oberst Announces New Album Plans

Conor Oberst announced on his website today that he and his mystical band will be releasing their sophomore effort, entitled "Outer South," on May 5th via Merge Records.



Here is the release:

"Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band will release a brand new album on May 5th on Merge Records. The album, titled Outer South, was recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillio, outside El Paso, Texas in November/December and features the same talented group of musicians as were present on last year’s acclaimed Conor Oberst album.

The Mystic Valley Band are Taylor Hollingsworth, Nik Freitas, Macey Taylor, Nathaniel Walcott and Jason Boesel.

Outer South is a spectacular 16-track album featuring songs written by Oberst, Jason Boesel, Nik Freitas, and Taylor Hollingsworth, some of which were part of the live show from late last year including “Nikorette” which they performed on Late Night With Conan O’Brien in November.

The Mystic Valley Band will be playing a run of shows in the west and at the Coachella Festival this spring."

New Conor Oberst Is Really Good

Conor Oberst's new Merge-released record, Conor Oberst, will be out on August 4th and now begins the process of leaking a few tracks to wet our blogger whistles. Two new CB tracks are available for streaming on Oberst's site (HERE) and they are both great. Here is a live version of one of the available tracks, "Danny Callahan," recorded live from his performance at our very own 400 Bar on the West Bank last December.

Also on his site are the circumstances of the recording, which are pretty interesting:

"This recording was made in Tepoztlán, Morelos, México during January and February of 2008. A temporary studio was created in a mountain villa — known for Aztec Magic and Extra-Terrestrial Sightings — called Valle Místico. The album was produced by Conor Oberst with much help from engineer and long time associate Andy LeMaster.

A special band was assembled for the recording, known amongst themselves and to friends as The Mystic Valley Band."
