The kid-tested, Apple-approved dreampop trio Chairlift are playing a whole bunch of tour dates, some with Peter, Bjorn and John, and others with YACHT. Chicago gets not one, but two opportunities to see the group do its thing live. So we've got that going for us, which is nice. Additionally, the band is featured on a new Toyota Yaris and Urban Outfitters Radio Benefit compilation, available at Insound for 99 cents. The proceeds go to benefit independent radio. Somehow, I doubt Toyota and Urban Outfitters actually even listen to, let alone support, independent radio, but the effort should be applauded all the same

With a sound so heavy driven by clean, funky guitars, soft electronic drums, and a wide array of celestial synthesizer sounds, is it any wonder that Chairlift, a Brooklyn-based trio, have come on like gangbusters with the internet crowd? It certainly helps that songs like "Bruises", essentially a re-write of The Cure's "Close To Me" through the guise of new millenial romanticism, are written in a cloud of reverb-y haze that suggests fellow 80s-minded contemporaries M83. An iPod nano commercial isn't too shabby either. While the songs from their latest effort, the grammatically challenged Does You Inspire You, aren't as dramatic as the ones on Saturday=Youth, any one who wants to further explore groups who are expanding on the lush sound of the Cocteau Twins can take a chairlift.

Chairlift opens tonight for Yeasayer at the Triple Rock Social Club.

Hey there readers. Once in a while, when the amount of MP3s I need to write up pile up high on my digital desk, I make a playlist of all the songs I've gotten. This is one of them. Rather than talk about them, I've decided to let you readers take hold of the discussion as a means of stimulating the comments section. Its just basically been reader Jon Jon wandering the comment Earth like Kane from Kung Fu. So leave a hullaboo and get the discussion started. Tell us what you think about these songs.
