New Hold Steady - "Lord, I'm Discouraged"
Of all the three new songs that The Hold Steady played when I saw them in Chicago on Tuesday ("Magazines", "Joke About Dyer'Maker" were the other two), this one was my favorite. I definitely dig the twelve-string guitar and, later on, Tad Kubler's bitchin' guitar solo. Of course, there's always Craig Finn's witty and truthful lyrics. This video was taken at the band's performance on Oct. 27 in Colombus, Ohio. Judging by these batch of songs, it would seem that their new record, whenever it may come out, is going in a more reflective, mid-tempo direction. Either way, it would be prudent to withold judgement until proper MP3s of these songs come out. Still, I like what I hear so far.
Did any of you go to the show in Minneapolis last night? Did they play this one?

Yeah...they played this one...great tune. Awesome show, too! Best show I've seen in a year and a half or so. A friend of mine has seen them 4 times, and she said it was the best she's ever seen them.
Yup, I remember that song for the 12-string & the solo too. Crazy good show. Crazy good.
I think they spell it "Joke about Jamaica" - I got a setlist, and it just says "Jamaica" on there.
In Minneapolis, they played "Lord, I'm Discouraged" during the encore. During the main set, they played "Ask of Anything" (at least I think that's what the title was) and "Magazines."
