Guided By Voices 2007 Reunion

This is footage of Guided By Voices reuniting over the weekend to play in a BBQ in Dayton, Ohio. Pretty awesome, if very brief.

Not to sound like a douche, but I was there and it was probably the coolest moment in rock that I've personally ever witnessed. Made even better that they were playing on my drums (I was the drummer in the cover band that came on right after).

Again, all possible douchiness aside, it was probably the greatest weekend of my life.

Mike-
Dude, no douchiness whatsoever. Could you possibly reveal more about the evening itself? Did you have any idea that they were going to reunite? What was the vibe in the room like?

Lemme know.

It wasn't a room, but an outdoor park type of thing. It was an all-day party for a group of fans, and we kind of knew Bob would at least stop by. Turned out he was part of the festivities all weekend, and stuck around the entire day on Saturday.

Other alumni who surprised us that day included Greg Demos, Nate Farley, Jim MacPherson, Chris Slusarenko, Jason Narducy, and at the very end of the evening (after the stage was taken down), Mr. Doug Gillard.

We (the cover band "The Heedonists") were told that Bob may or may not join us for a song, and we went into the whole thing trying not to get our hopes up. About 30 minutes before we were to go on, we were told the guys would go up and do the first song "A Salty Salute". We were honored, and then Bob and Demos did "Nature's Way" by Spirit. It was beautiful.

So THEN we played through our set, and at various times we had guest vocals by Rich T, Jason Narducy, and Slusarenko. But at the very end, Bob came up and joined us for "Love Is Stronger Than Witchcraft" (Jason Narducy returned to the stage and played bass). It was hands-down the coolest thing I've ever been a part of.

Oh yeah...in case you haven't seen them already, there's about 9 different songs from our set that day on YouTube. Just search for "The Heedonists". They haven't put up the one where Bob sings with us yet, I'm not sure why.

But what's really cool is that on songs like "Rhoda Rhoda" you can see Bob standing down in front pumping his fist and moving along to the music. Fucking surreal.

Mike-
That sounds incredible! I'll definitely look for the Heedonists clips you mentioned. Thanks for your comments!

No problem, Jon. And if you know of anyone wanting to form a GBV tribute band up here in the Cities...let me know! It's so much goddamn fun.
