So, despite all the hubbub about leaks Rolling Stone reports that the White Stripes had their best sales week ever for Icky Thump The Stripes' sixth album sold a total of 224,000 copies, which was good enough for number two behind the latest from Bon Jovi.

Now, although this information is new, I have to wonder what people will say about the Stripes' sales total in spite of the leak. On the one hand, I wouldn't be happy if my record had leaked three weeks early and people were snatching up left and right online. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if the publicity generated by the radio station dust-up heightened the profile of the record, which may have lead to the increase in sales. On the other other hand, perhaps it's because Icky Thump is just a better record that its predecessor.

Discuss.

Why is everyone saying "Conquest" is so great? I think it's one of the worst tracks on Icky Thump. It's all about "Little Cream Soda" and "I'm Slowly Turning Into You". Those are classic Stripes tracks. "Conquest" just sounds like something you would hear in a Quentin Tarrantino movie. Just my opinion.

As for record sales, I think the Stripes will continue to sell more and more records on opening weeks because their fanbase is pretty faithful. I mean I downloaded the cd 3 weeks in advance just like everyone else, but I still bought the cd too. Jack White doesnt make bad music and his fans know that.

As for best album of 2007, I'll have to disagree. Arcade Fire's Neon Bible, Coconut Records (Jason Scwartzman's project), and the new Queens of the Stone Age, Era Vulgaris, are better listens I think.

JFinnegan-
Oddly enough, the reason you hate "Conquest" is the reason I love it.

I haven't heard anything about Coconut Records. What are they like?
