Retribution Gospel Choir Do Daytrotter Session

Following up the release of their debut album, Alan Sparhawk’s other, other, other band, Retribution Gospel Choir, laid down a Daytrotter session last week. Meshing the pounding percussion of ‘70s rock with the downcast fuzz of ‘90s alternative, RGC cuts an aggressive sound very different from Low. But, in both band's melodies in their songs, as well as their vocal harmonies, Sparhawk never quite escapes that Duluth sound (not that that’s a bad thing!).

Retribution Gospel Choir Awarded 7.5 On Pitchfork

It looks like everything is coming up Milhouse for Duluth-based trio Retribution Gospel Choir. First off, the band, an offshoot of Low, played the Turf Club this past weekend to celebrate the release of their new self-titled album. Secondly, the band, who are self-described as group that writes "two minute pop songs (that) run into psychedelic improvisations and drum-n-bass-heavy dub", just received a positive review for their efforts from the likes of Pitchfork, who awarded the album a rating of 7.5.
