Stream Flight of the Conchords In Its Entirety

Download: Flight of the Conchords - "Business Time"

Flight of the Conchords, the self-described "fourth most popular digi-folk paradists", as well as the missing link between Spinal Tap and the funk-infused soul of the early seventies, will release their first full-length LP on Tuesday. Time will tell if this 12-song record will be as delightfully absurdist, intelligent, and dry-witted as their comedy act/television show is (we have a feeling the answer is yes), but for those of you who want to hear the entire record, head on over to the group's MySpace Page. I definitely plan on listening and reviewing the album myself.

But before I do so, I have to go sort out the recycling, which isn't part of the "listening process", but it's still very important. Brushing my teeth, on the other hand...

New Flight of the Conchords - "Ladies of the World"

Download: Flight of the Conchords - "Ladies of the World

Flight of the Conchords, New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-parody duo, may not be coming back to television until next year, but those who cannot wait for new music from the rhymenoceros and the hiphopopatmus (whose lyrics are...) can take comfort. Sub Pop has just released the new single from the pair's upcoming self-titled effort. "Ladies of the World" is the kind of faux 70s-soul ditty that happens to be the group's forte, but there's a little better production value here; the haunting fade-out is impressive. As for the lyrics, the band keeps on wanting to make things special for the ladies of the world, or even the hermaphodites of the world. In fact, Jemaine Clement raps that "with your lady bits/and your man bits/you must be even into you."

In short, it's classic Conchords material, though a bit abrupt toward the end. But not only have the band released the first single, there's cover art and tracklisting too! Check one out at the top, and the other right here:

1. Foux du Fafa
2. Inner City Pressure
3. Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros
4. Think About It

Flight of the Conchords - The French Song

I saw my first episode of Flight of the Conchords last night and nearly peed my pants with laughter during this segment. Oh man.

Flight of the Conchords

From HBO (and to a greater extent, New Zealand) comes the "new" show Flight of the Conchords. Like most new things on television, Flight of the Conchords (Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement) have been around for quite some time. They've already had an HBO special (YouTube "Rhymenoceros" and revel in the glory), and, of course, have been performing in the U.S., New Zealand and many other places around the world. They're basically like a more polite, less metal, version of Tenacious D. The clip above is taken from their first episode, which airs on HBO on June 17th at 9:30 central time (10:30 eastern).
