Is JJ Abrams's New Movie About Cthulhu?

So if you went and saw Transformers over the weekend, you probably saw the teaser trailer for "Lost" creator JJ Abrams's new project, which is so far known under the fake title "Cloverfield." You can watch the teaser trailer here

Needless to say, since it's JJ Abrams and all cryptic-like, internet speculation as to what the hell this movie is about is rampant. However, one of the most interesting theories I saw was on the Something Awful thread for the film.

Something Awful Poster Senfood wrote the following:

“I made a pretty interesting find. If you check the comments on
Ethan Haas Was Wrong, the corresponding blog the frequently links to Ethan Haas Is Right (a tie-in site that features cryptic flash puzzles and an equally cryptic video that I haven't seen yet)you'll see some comments made by users named "jorge" and "Abdul Alhazred". The comments for them both are:

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

Obviously,the most glaring word in that phrase is Cthulhu (I know, I'm excited too!).I did a google search on what it said and its a language used in Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu and translates into:

"In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming."

A shortened version of this phrase is "Cthulhu fhtagn" which means "Cthulhu waits," ‘Cthulhu dreams,’ or ‘Cthulhu waits dreaming.’”

Obviously, every little bit of speculation should be treated with a grain of salt. That said, a Cthulhu movie would be pretty amazing. If the film is being shot on hand-held cameras, then that may be a very interesting and modern way of updating H.P. Lovecraft's style of people on the brink of insanity vaguely describing how horrible and dreadful what they saw was.

Even if the theory is bogus, at least it gives me an excuse to post Metallica's "The Call of Cthulhu," right?
