Everybody Else Is Posting It, So Why Shouldn't We?: Oasis - "The Shock of The Lightning"
Download:Oasis - "The Shock Of The Lightning"
A recurring feature in which MFR gives in to blog peer pressure and post a track that's been ravenously consumed by fellow MP3 blogs, regardless of how good it is. Last time, it was Bloc Part's "Mercury". This time, it's a fellow UK act, Oasis.
As of this writing, not one, not two, but four of the hot posts on Elbo.ws are devoted to this song. Surely, more will come. But for now, we'll take a listen to "The Shock of the Lightning", the second leaked single from the British quartet's forthcoming seventh album, Dig Out Your Soul. And how is the track?
Surprisingly listenable. "Lightning" is, like their last few albums, a throwback to their straight-ahead rock sounds on Definitely Maybe, but with the tempo a little faster. In fact, the song sounds not unlike Oasis member Andy Bell's old band, a face-meltingly awesome shoegazer band called Ride. If you can get past the inane nature of the lyrics ("love is a time machine"?), this is more than a little bit of alright.
Dig Out Your Soul (Oasis love those directives, don't they?) is out on October 7th.
